alive and kicking my heels up.

January 25, 2009

What have I been doing while on a Cyber Detox?  Lots.  But first let me vent on my current financial situation that has upheld the installation of Misplaced Mama’s new Satellite system out here in the cradle of the mama earth: AAARRRGH.  But I call upon Buffalo Medicine, and the abundance flows to us, as always Jah provides.  I have lived in the belly of the city and the middle of the forests and in the semi-suburbs.  Somehow we always seem to be fed and sheltered and surrounded by beauty, culture, rhythm.  I know that the iron will smooth out the kinks and soon internet will grace our home along with the bills being paid.  Until then, I bow down to the little cafe up the way that fills my cup of coffee and lets me ride the wave of their wireless.

This month

I turned 35.

Hung out with cousins.

Survived Floods officially called National Disasters.

Photobucket” /> this was the street next to us.

Got up-do’s at The Hairstream in Glacier.

And I have been writing.  I have been writing more and more, the absence of the internet and it’s distractions bring blessings.  Microsoft Word meeting up with fast and furious typing have been music under the waning moon. But I miss this connection, this space, where so many hold me on this journey.  This community is real, and I feel it the most when I am away from it.  For you, who is another myself, I give thanks.

  2. I miss you too. Glad you survived the flood, and oh my, do I love the Hairstream! (My ILs travel all winter in an airstream)

Happy Birthday my dear, and I hope one day to be able to read the fruits of all this internet-less time.

Let me just say that OH MY FRIGGING GOSH, Z looks JUST LIKE YOU! I see you in all of your girls, but in her, it’s just mind blowing.

Love the flood pics. I was wondering how you were all holding up. Pretty dramatic, huh?

We love you. I can’t wait to see you all again…maybe soon?

Oh, and how is the girls’ singing coming along? ; )

  8. I give thanks to you too! I’ve been reading your blog for a while, but I’ve never commented. I think I stumbled upon it linked to another blog I was reading. I’ve really enjoyed your words and beautiful photos. I just wanted to thank you for sharing, wish you a happy birthday and pass along my own little virtual soul window :)

  9. Did Bill make a cornbread cake for you?

  10. In so many ways, yes, parallel - except here it is snow coming in torrents. Thirty-five - except here I haven’t stepped away as fully from the internet as I envision myself doing, and need to if I am going to do that work, that writing, writing, Microsoft Word, old-fashioned unlined notebook kind. I hold the space, with or without this place, in some other kind of shared faith that like you, we always seem to have what we need, even when we aren’t quite sure how.

So much love to you, MB.

  12. Your seeing the bright side of no internet reminds me of the theory of ‘positive deviance’ i just read about in the NYT Magazine ‘Year in Ideas’ issue - looking at the 30% that is right and studying that instead of the 70% that is wrong. Apply randomly to educational systems, medical conditions, and lapses of internet connectivity. I love you and wish you the happiest warmest of belated birthdays from the other side of this blue earth. xo
